You should follow the general system requirements for installing the version of Xcalibur that you plan to use. The system requirements for running ProMass are listed below:
Finnigan Xcalibur v. 1.2 or later must be
installed
PC with a Pentium II processor or later (>
400 MHz recommended)
At least 128 MB RAM (256 MB recommended)
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 SP6 (for Xcalibur
1.2) or Windows 2000 SP2 (for Xcalibur 1.3) or Windows XP (for
Xcalibur 1.4 or greater)
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later
At least 40 MB of free disk space is required
to install the program and help files
Spectral deconvolution is a processor-intense operation. Most of our tests reveal that speed is linearly related to processor clock speed. Therefore, a fast microprocessor (e.g., >2GHz Pentium 4 or dual core CPU) is best if you want fast execution times or if you are processing complex spectra.
Note: ProMass does not include web server software. A web server is not required if you want to view your results on a local machine. However, if you want to share your data with others over the internet or intranet you will need a web server.
